Use of the appliance

Do the baking plates have to be greased?

Before you start baking, you need to grease the baking plates with oil (peanut, sunflower…) or melted butter. Afterwards greasing isn’t necessary anymore, unless you let the waffles burn. If this is the case, first you should remove the burned dough. Remove the plug, let the appliance cool down and remove the burned dough. Be careful with sharp objects, these might damage the not stick coating.   Best is to remove with a bit of kitchen paper or with a clean silicone brush. Don’t forget to grease the plates again before the next baking.

When can I start baking?

When the appliance is plugged in, the red control light illuminates. Turn the thermostat into the desired position. As soon as the desired temperature has been reached, the green control light lights up. You can start to bake.

How do I bake waffles?

1. Always carefully follow the recipe. (Also try our recipes on our website!).

2. Heat up the waffle maker to the desired temperature (wait for the green control light to light up)

3. Before you start baking, you need to grease the baking plates with oil (peanut, sunflower…) or melted butter.

4. Put the dough on the baking plates and close the upper lid of the appliance as soon as possible. If you leave it open too long, the upper and bottom side of the waffle will not have the same color.

Always respect the baking times (also see the advised baking times in our recipes on our website). If you open the lid too soon, there is a big chance that the dough will stick to the baking plates. If this is the case, first you should remove the burned dough. Remove the plug, let the appliance cool down and remove the burned dough. Be careful with sharp objects, these might damage the non stick coating.   Best is to remove with a bit of kitchen paper or with a clean silicone brush. Don’t forget to grease the plates again before the next baking.

5. Always use the waffle fork to remove the waffles in one piece (without braking). Make sure you don’t damage the non stick coating with the waffle fork.

6.  Let the waffles cool down on a grid.

How do I use the baking plates for the waffles from Brussels?

Fill the bottom plate with dough, the upper half will be filled when the dough rises. Do not use the flip-over position; otherwise your waffles will have some holes.

How long do the waffles have to bake?

Depending on the type of dough, the temperature of the dough (ambient temperature or out of the fridge) and on your personal taste you will have to chose the adequate temperature position. This will also influence the baking time. In our recipes on our website, you will find some advised baking times.

How do I prevent my waffle to stick?

Before you start baking, you need to grease the baking plates with oil (peanut, sunflower…) or melted butter. Afterwards greasing isn’t necessary anymore, unless you let the waffles burn. If this is the case, first you should remove the burned dough. Remove the plug, let the appliance cool down and remove the burned dough. Be careful with sharp objects, these might damage the not stick coating.   Best is to remove with a bit of kitchen paper or with a clean silicone brush. Don’t forget to grease the plates again before the next baking.

Also, it is important to respect the baking times. If you open the lid too soon, there is a big chance that the dough will stick to the baking plates. (See above)

How do I remove the baking plates from the waffle maker?

Both halves of the waffle maker are equipped with clip brackets. To remove the plates just push the clip brackets.

Is it necessary to grease the baking plates?

Before you start baking you must grease the plates with some oil (peanut oil, sunflower oil, ...) or melted butter. Afterwards greasing is not necessary anymore, unless the waffles get burned. In that case you need to remove the burned piece first. Unplug, let the appliance cool down and remove.

Watch out with sharp objects, these can damage the non stick coating. You can easily do this with a piece of paper towel or a clean silicone brush. Do not forget to grease the plates again before to continue baking.

How do I successfully bake waffles from Brussels?

  • Let the batter rise for half an hour to an hour.
  • Fill the lower baking plate completely with batter, all at once. You must always do this from the front towards the back.
  • Close the waffle maker and turn it over immediately. After having baked for half of the baking time turn it over again.
  • The baking time depends on the time the batter needs to rise: the longer the batter has risen, the lighter and quicker the waffle is baked.
  • Only open the appliance after the baking time, otherwise the waffle could stick to the plate.
  • The yeast batter can only be conserved for a few hours maximum. Prepare it, let it rise and then immediately bake the waffles. Do not put the batter in the batter in the fridge to use afterwards.
  • You can bake the waffles beforehand and just before serving warm them up again during approximately 30 seconds.

Technical questions

My waffles don't turn out well, or don't have the right color or consistency, what do I do?

1. The dough wasn’t prepared following the recipe. Always carefully follow the recipe.

2. The baking time was too short. Bake the waffle a little longer.

3. The thermostat position wasn’t high enough. Bake the waffles 1 or 2 positions higher on the thermostat.

The dough overflows, what do I do?

There was too much dough on the baking plates. Use less dough. Remove the excessive dough with some kitchen paper or with a clean silicone brush.

I think my appliance doesn't heat enough, what do I do?

This appliance is compliant with the European laws regarding heating. This may not be higher so that the user wouldn’t burn himself on the outside of the appliance. As a consequence the appliance needs a little more time to bake a waffle. The baking of a waffle from Brussels for example takes about 6 minutes on position 6.

The green light doesn't work.

If the green light doesn’t light up when you bake for the first time there might be a problem with the thermostat of the appliance. Take your appliance to your sales point together with a copy of your receipt. Your appliance will be fixed under guaranty.

If the light doesn’t illuminate again while baking that cause might be found with the recipe of the dough. This might be too thin or too cold which implies that the heat first goes to the dough, and only then to the plates and thermostat. There is nothing wrong with the appliance. Adjust the recipe.

The plates don't stay in the appliance

There might be a problem with the clip brackets of your appliance. Return your appliance with the receipt to your selling point. The appliance will be fixed under guarantee.

How do I best keep the waffles?

Soft waffles are best stored in a plastic box with lid. Hard waffles are best stored in a closed tin box.
